Total Time: 30 mins
Servings: 4
Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon canola oil
- 1 teaspoon butter
- 1 medium onion, halved and thinly sliced
- Pinch of salt
- Pinch of sugar
- 1/3 cup jalapeno pepper jelly
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon pepper
- 1 pound ground beef
- 4 hamburger buns, split and toasted
- 2 tablespoons crumbled Gorgonzola cheese
- Thinly sliced jalapeno pepper, optional
Instructions
- Onions: In a small skillet, heat the oil and butter over medium heat. Add the onion, salt, and sugar; cook and stir for 3–4 minutes until the onion softens. Reduce the heat to medium-low and continue cooking, stirring occasionally, for 4–6 minutes until the onion is deep golden brown.
- Mix: In a large bowl, combine the jelly, salt, and pepper. Add the ground beef and mix lightly but thoroughly. Shape into four patties, about 1/2 inch thick.
- Grill: Grill the burgers, covered, over medium heat (or broil 4 inches from the heat) for 4–5 minutes per side, until a thermometer reads 160°F.
- Plate: Plate the burgers on buns, topped with caramelized onions, cheese, and sliced jalapeños, if desired.
- Serve and Enjoy!
